St. Joseph School values the education of the total child and is committed to affording our parents the opportunity to expose their children to extracurricular activities that will enhance their overall development and growth as persons. We currently offer the following activities through our After-School Academy:
Guitar – is offered once a week (Tuesdays through Thursdays) at a cost of $17 per shared lesson (30 minutes) or $20.00 per private lesson (30 minutes). Mr. Joseph Bonds, a St. Joseph Church parishioner, teaches the classes. He is classically trained and has performed in Master Classes under Christopher Parkening (Columbia Artists), Sharon Isbin ( Juilliard School ), Andrew York ( Los Angeles Guitar Quartet) and Benjamin Verdery ( Yale University ). Mr. Bonds teaches English at Southwood High School and is a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Students in the third grade or higher can sign up for these classes. Younger students may be able to sign up at Mr. Bond’s discretion.
Violin – is offered once a week (Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays) at a cost of $17 per shared lesson (30 minutes) or $20.00 per private lesson (30 minutes). Ms. Hope Bruce, a St. Joseph Church parishioner, teaches the classes. She is trained in the Suzuki Method and has been teaching private lessons for nine years. Ms. Bruce has studied under world- renown Suzuki instructors trained in teaching teacher-training courses, particularly focusing on teaching young children. She has taught for two years with a reputable music school in the Greater New Orleans area and has taught in various cities all over the southwest part of the state. She has had the experience of teaching well over fifty students.
All programs will be held on full days of school only.
The discipline policy for the After-School Academy is the same as the policy for students during the school day. The rules are in the St. Joseph Handbook that is distributed at the beginning of the school year.
Music lessons are billed bi-weekly and art classes are prepaid per nine weeks. Payments should be submitted to the school office.
If your child is interested in any of the above, please e-mail Peggy Johnson at pjohnson@sjsfalcons.org or call the school office at 865-3585.
