Action Plan #1

Target area for improvement Integrate knowledge across the curriculum.
Improvement Goal Students will expand and integrate knowledge across the curriculum and
between grades.
Expectations for Student Learning Students will be able to use technology to connect knowledge and experience across the curriculum and between grades.
Targeted Participants All students and teachers grades K5-8
Interventions Teachers will use standardized test results to identify areas of weaknesses and appropriate interventions for individual students and classes in regards to the integration of the curriculum from grade to grade.
Curriculum Teachers will continue to effectively implement and use Smartboard technology in classrooms K3-8th grades. Online and interactive activities via textbook series will be used in addition to teacher created interactive activities created via SMART software. In addition, cooperative planning among teachers will occur to plan and implement units of cross curricular study.
Assessment Teachers will use performance assessments and traditional testing to reinforce objectives specific to a particular grade level. Teachers will also reflect and make necessary changes after the completion of cross curricular units to best meet the needs of students.
Professional Development Teacher Inservice hours will be integrated in to monthly faculty meetings scheduled the second Monday of every month at 2:00. Such hours will include expanding knowledge concerning Smartboard technology provided by technology coordinator. In addition, this time will be used for vertical teaming to analyze test scores and to share ideas for improving the transition of the curriculum from grade to grade. Throughout the year various teachers will be selected to attend professional development seminars and workshops with a concentration in their content area.
Evaluation Consistency will be seen in standardized test scores in high scoring subjects as a result of the effective integration of curriculum from grade to grade. Improvement of at least 5 percentage points will be seen in low scoring subjects as a result of the effective integration of curriculum from grade to grade.

Target area for improvement Problem solving and cognitive thinking skills
Improvement goal Students will show improvement in problem solving and cognitive thinking
skills.
Expectations for Student Learning Students will be able to demonstrate improvement in problem solving and cognitive thinking skills.
Targeted Participants All students and teachers grades K3-8
Interventions School’s professional development programs will focus on problem solving and cognitive thinking skills. As a result teachers will be able to effectively identify areas of weaknesses and strengths to plan appropriate interventions for individual students and classes in regards to problem solving and cognitive thinking skills.
Curriculum Teachers will implement problem solving and cognitive thinking skills into weekly lesson plans. Teachers will also continue to learn and utilize methods and techniques to enhance student learning. The “Discoveries” program will continue to be implemented for gifted students grades 2nd-5th. Selection for this program will be based on standardized test scores and teacher recommendations. The curriculum of the program serves to challenge these students and be an extension of the regular classroom, promoting problem solving and higher order thinking skills. Accelerated Reader and Math programs will also continue to be implemented in grades K5-8th.
Assessment Teachers will use student performance assessments and traditional testing in addition to informal assessments such as student observation and discussion
techniques to reinforce problem solving and cognitive thinking skills.
Professional development A structured staff development plan based on faculty needs has been designed and monies allocated for teachers to attend workshops annually. Discussion at grade level and faculty meetings will take place to share what was learned at such workshops. All faculty and staff will attend the National Catholic Educators Association convention in New Orleans, LA in April.
Evaluation Student problem solving and cognitive thinking skills will be evaluated on a weekly basis formally and informally by teachers who will be expected to implement strategies that will effectively nurture and develop such skills.

Target area for improvement Effective use of technology
Improvement goal Students and staff will demonstrate effective use of technology as a tool for learning, referencing resources, producing documents, reports, and projects.
Expectations for Student Learning Students will be able to effectively use technology to complete assignments, reference resources to enhance the learning process. In addition, teachers will be able to effectively use technology to create assignments and to reference resources. Such use of technology will be expected to be seen in teacher lesson plans and in the completion of daily duties.
Targeted participants All students and teachers K3-8
Interventions The school technology coordinator will be available to students and teachers requiring additional assistance. The technology coordinator will also be responsible for staying current on the latest technology updates and relaying such information to faculty and students.
Curriculum Teachers will continue to effectively incorporate the use of SmartBoard technology into daily lesson plans on a weekly basis. Each classroom teacher will have a current, operable computer with Internet access. At least one student computer will be present in each classroom providing students will the ability to complete class projects, centers, research, and accelerated reader and math quizzes. Such teacher and student computers will be equipped with shared network drives so that information can be shared by teachers and students in an efficient manner throughout the school. In addition the effective use of online assignments will be implemented through edline.net. Students and parents will be able to check homework, grades, and complete online assignments, quizzes, and discussions.
Assessment Teachers will document such uses of technology in weekly lesson plans, which are
checked by administration. Student performance using the technology described above will be evaluated on a constant basis formally and informally through projects and assignments.
Professional development The school technology coordinator will be responsible for inservicing faculty at monthly grade level and faculty meetings concerning ed-line.net, SmartBoard technology, shared network drive expectations, as well as any other current technology updates. The coordinator will continue to attend professional development seminars and conferences in order to meet these objectives effectively.
Evaluation Students and teachers will be comfortable and will be able to effectively implement technology on a daily basis. This will be evaluated and proven as a result of teacher lesson plans and student performance concerning such technology.

Target area of improvement Effective use and implementation of i-Pad technology
Improvement Goal Sixth Grade students and teachers will be able to effectively incorporate and implement i-Pad technology daily into the classroom to enhance student learning with a concentration on literacy skills. Long term goal is to see one to one i-Pad use in grades 5th-8th.
Expectations of Student Learning Students will improve literacy skills through the use of one to one i-Pad
technology.
Targeted participants Sixth grade students and teachers
Interventions The school technology coordinator will be available to students and teachers requiring additional assistance. The technology coordinator will also be responsible for staying current on the latest technology updates and relaying such information to faculty and students. In addition, the literature teacher will use standardized test results to identify areas of weaknesses and strengths to plan appropriate intervention for individual students and classes in regards to literacy skills.
Curriculum Sixth grade teachers will implement the use of i-Pad technology into lesson
plans.
Assessment Teachers will use performance assessments and traditional testing to reinforce literacy skills with the effective incorporation of i-Pad technology. Such technology includes, but is not limited to podcasts, videos, internet access, interactive applications, and digital textbooks and novels.
Professional development The literature teacher and technology coordinator will attend the annual i-Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, the school technology coordinator will be responsible for the latest updates regarding i-Pad technology and relaying this information to teachers and students.
Evaluation Sixth grade student standardized test scores will increase in the areas of reading comprehension and vocabulary by at least 3 percent.
